Josh Orzech - Chazzan
I was born and grew up in Toronto, having studied and graduated from
Netivot Hatorah Day School, Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto, York
University, and Humber College. My academic studies and professional
goals were clear - business and computers. Just after I got married
in August, 2004, to my amazing wife Yael Alt, we moved to Montreal.
Living in Montreal has exposed me to a lot more Chazzanut then I was
accustomed to. Although I may not have realized at the time, my passion
and love for prayer, Jewish life, and community was just the beginning
of a new branch and goal in life. Building and strengthening the Jewish
community through any means is so important.
Tefilah needs to be inspiring. The words of prayer need to be meaningful.
I hope I can bring life, excitement, and meaning to our prayers. I
hope to bring energy and enthusiasm to the congregation. I hope people
will feel more involved and connected to prayer. And I hope to successfully
blend contemporary Jewish music with the beautiful traditional melodies
and nusach of our rich musical history.
I am currently studying at the Montreal Cantorial Institute with Cantor
Arie Subar. Cantor Subar has been an incredible teacher and friend.
His experience, knowledge and love for prayer has helped me grow and
develop as both a Chazzan and person.
I currently lead services at the Adath approximately every other Shabbat,
and Yom Tov. Best wishes and good luck to everyone. May we together
grow the Adath community to new heights.
